Scan Process

Overview of Scan Functions

New scans can be started using the blue scan button at the bottom of the job details screen.
The app then switches to scan mode, where the following options are available:

The scan process can be canceled using the Cancel button in the top left corner. A scan can be discarded and repeated.

The Save button is located in the top right corner. The bottom area displays all available modes. Photos as well as point and line objects can be added to the scan. By default, photo mode is selected. The active mode is indicated by a blue highlight on the corresponding icon.

Scanning

The scan process is started once by tapping the blue scan button and stopped by tapping the save button. The process can be canceled at any time using the cancel button.

During scanning, all elements that will later belong to the 3D model are displayed without the blue hue. Areas highlighted in blue will not be included in the final scan because they have either not yet been captured or are too far away.

Adding Photos

Photo mode is located in the bottom right corner. Photos can be taken during the scan process. After saving, additional photos can be added as long as the scan has not yet been uploaded.

The number on the photo mode icon indicates how many photos have been taken.

Adding Point and Line Objects

Point and line objects can be added until the scan is saved. Adding them afterward, as with photos, is not possible.

A marker indicates the position of the point. Tapping the shutter places the point at that position.

Creating a line works similarly. While the line is being edited, each new point is connected to the previous one. It is possible to undo the placement of the most recent point. To finish a line, it must be confirmed by tapping the checkmark button. A minimum of two points is required to create a line.

Existing markers can be highlighted by moving the marker over them.
The selected point or line objects are highlighted in yellow and two buttons appear:

  • The left button allows editing the category of the point or line object.
  • The right button deletes the selected object.

Point and line objects are assigned to categories. The category can be changed using the selection field above the shutter button. Available categories are predefined.

Additionally, there are three special point objects intended for notes: Information, Risk and Warning.

When one of these points is placed, a temporary menu opens where a title and description can be added.

Save, restart, or cancel a scan

The buttons at the top of the screen allow you to save, restart, or cancel a scan. The x button in the left corner allows you to restart the current scan or cancel the scanning process completely. The blue button in the right corner saves the captured scan. You can choose to end the scan, which will process the scans captured so far. Alternatively, you can add another scan right away.

To finish the scan, tap the save button. If the maximum scan size is reached, the scan is automatically stopped and the current state is saved.

If there is still an incomplete line in the scan, the user will be informed of this when saving. The user can finish or delete the line, and the scan will be saved immediately afterwards.

Group Scans

A group scan includes all scans that are recorded during a continuous scanning process. This means that after a scan has been saved, the next scan can be started immediately by clicking on ‘Start another scan’. Only when you click on ‘Stop scanning’ does the scanning process end and the processing of the recorded scans begin.

The advantage of group scans is that they are automatically arranged correctly in relation to each other when imported into the web portal editor. This means that the position of the individual scans hardly needs to be corrected manually, if at all.

Important: If a new scan is started after a scan process has been ended, a new scan group is created. This is independent of previous groups. This means that the scans within a group are aligned correctly with each other, but are not automatically aligned with scans from other groups.

If several scan groups are created in a job, their positions must then be manually adjusted to each other in the web portal editor.

Saving and Processing

If you want to stop the scanning process, just hit the ‘Stop scanning’ button. The scans you've taken will start processing one after the other. While this is happening, you can check out the details page for each scan. Just tap on the scan you want to see.

On the details screen, a title and a comment can be added to the scan. The title is also used as the name of the generated scan file. Additional photos can be taken and added to the scan.

A button in the top left corner returns to the job details. On the top right side, the recorded scan can be deleted.
