Importing Data

To load basic data, open the corresponding NET Design project. You can find out how to do this here.

Switch to the “NET Design” tab. You will find the “Import” button on the far left of the panels.

Import demand points

The import from Excel is demonstrated using the example of the import of demand points. The georeferenced addresses are imported into the feature class “Demand Point”.

The destination document is predefined.

Select the appropriate import format.

Start the data selection and select the appropriate source.

Select the target feature class. In the example here, this is the “Demand Point.” Data in the feature class “Demand Point” is default data for the optimizer and is not modified by it.

The number of records found is displayed.

Note

When importing data from Excel, if the source data and the coordinate system of the project are not identical, then you must manually assign the source coordinate system. In this case, the geometry data will then be transformed.

Please note that for coordinates in ETRS89_UTM, the Easting must have 6 digits and the Northing must have 7 digits.

Define the assignment of attributes.

The attributes of the Target are displayed under “Attribute Caption”. You can assign the corresponding attribute from the source data under “Data column”. Under “Source”, you can choose between importing from the source data or filling with a constant value.

User-defined attributes

If your source data contains attributes that you cannot assign to a target attribute, you have the option of importing them as Custom attributes.

Click on the “Add item” button to add attributes; the “Delete item” button removes attribute assignments.

Select the attribute from the source data. The attribute designation is set automatically and can be changed by you. Make sure that you do not use any umlauts and special characters. 

Filter conditions

You have the option of defining filter conditions for the import. Click on the “Add Item” button to add filters; the “Delete Item” button removes set filters.

You can set both attributive and spatial filters.

The setting of filter conditions is supported by selection fields. Select the appropriate operator, the filter condition, and the object that maps the geometric filter. The geometries for the spatial filter are polygon objects and must already exist in the project.

When setting attribute filters, select the attribute to which the filter is to be applied. Select the appropriate operator and set the filter condition.

Saving settings

Settings that have been used once can be saved under “Importer Settings” and loaded for further imports.

Perform import

The “Import” button starts the process.

You have to close the import dialog before you can see the imported data in the project. 

In the graphic, run the “Zoom to Extents” command to load the graphic at the location of the imported data.

Importing from shape

For the shape import, the .CPG and .PRJ files must be available. These files contain the character encoding and the coordinate system. If the CPG file is missing, umlauts will not be converted correctly.

Result

After loading demand points and street center lines, the project may look like this. The display depends on the individual display model. The background data can also supplement the view of the planning.

Import of a Comsof Fiber Designer workspace

The import dialog also supports the import of an entire Comsof Fiber Designer workspace.

Transfer additional attributes

The checkbox activates the transfer of additional attributes

 

Import from CSV

In CSV import (and export) you will find an additional option "Culture".

This option controls according to which locale numbers are interpreted. This mainly affects floating point numbers.

If "German (Germany)" is selected, the comma is interpreted as the decimal separator and optionally the dot as the thousands separator.
For "English", the dot is the decimal separator and the comma is the thousands separator.

Import from NET Field Survey Base data model

Fill in the necessary fields as described below.

  • Target document: The target document is current
  • Selected Importer: Select -> Import from NET Field Survey Base data model
  • NET Field Survey document: Select the NET Field Survey source document (must be open)
  • Spatial Filter: select the spatial filter for the import. The spatial filter must be present in the target project. The spatial filter must be present in the "Cluster" object class with "Cluster Type" Planned Area
  • Feature selection: Select which object classes are to be imported
    • All
    • Connection points
  • Transfer not mapped attributes: If the checkbox is activated, not mapped attributes are also transferred
  • Transfer not mapped features: If this checkbox is activated, not mapped features will also be transferred

Start the Import via the Import button.
