Designation scheme

Designations are used in various ways for identifying fibers/wires, connectors/pins, splitters and ducts. These designations can be product specific or predefined by the operator of a system.
It is important to use consistent labeling. For this purpose, NET includes a comprehensive tool for managing designation schemes. A number of basic designation schemes are already available in the program, and further schemes can be easily added.
The designation schemes are managed in the form with the same name. Open the form via Industry Model Explorer > Administration > Designation scheme.
Each designation scheme has corresponding attribute definitions and a scheme type. These forms are arranged below the Designation-scheme form and display the information about the current record in the designation scheme.
The Editor for designation schemes and Editor for designation attributes workflows make it easier to create designation schemes.

Designation scheme

The already-defined designation schemes are displayed in the Designation-scheme form (= number of records in the filter). Click on the mceclip4.png button or the mceclip5.png menu item to create new designation schemes.



General tab—upper part
Attribute Description
Name The name of the designation scheme is freely selectable and is entered here. (1)
Format This is where the format of the designation scheme is defined. The characters “%1”, etc., are placeholders for attributes that are defined in the Designation-attribute form. (2)
Example: Designation scheme for the numbering of fibers and bundles in a cable section. These are cables with 12 fibers in a bundle.F/BW: The fibers are numbered in the bundle. “%1” is a placeholder for the fiber number and “%2” is a placeholder for the bundle number. The bundle number is only increased by the value 1 when the numbering of the fibers has gone through all the values defined in the Designation-attribute form (start to end).
Type This is where the designation-scheme type is selected. It can be a numbering or color scheme, for example. (3)
Information This is where you can put descriptive information on the designation scheme. (4)
Testing the scheme This button is used to start a test for the selected scheme. (5)

The placeholders described in field 2 (Designation-scheme form) are defined in the Designation-attribute form.
Name Entry of the name of the placeholder to be defined from the field 2 format (Designation-scheme form). (6)
Attribute type Selection of the attribute type. You can find more information under Designation-scheme-attribute type. (7)
Start/end In the Start and End fields, the start and end sequences from the value range for type are defined for the placeholder defined under Name. (8)
Example: The placeholder “%1” stands for the fiber number in the bundle. The fiber numbers are positive integers. For this reason, type “00–99” is selected. The numbering of the fibers in the bundle runs from 1 to 12 (12-wire bundles). This means that only the values from beginning=1 to end=12 are used from the value range of 00–99.

The placeholder “%2” stands for the bundles in the cable section. The numbering of the bundles runs from 1 to 72 in the integer range. The format setting “%1/%2” indicates that all values of the fiber numbering “%1” go through their value range first before the value “%2” is increased by 1.

The data field of the feature class for which the designation scheme is used is specified in the Designation-scheme type form.


Table The name of the feature class must be selected from the drop-down list.
Attribute The name of the attribute must be entered.
Field color 1/2 Color designation for the Duct feature class, which can have two colors: COLOR and COLOR2

Color scheme for fibers

In order for the fiber colors from the value scheme to be translated into the corresponding colors in the graphical overviews, the scheme must be named as follows: Placeholder space%1/%2

Attribute Description
Format The implementation of the color requires a space, the placeholder %1, a “/” and optionally another placeholder value. The first color is read between the space and the “/”, so the “/” is absolutely necessary: Fiber/BA: %1/%2
If the color is not defined, black is used. (1)
Type The color scheme must be selected as the type. This facilitates filtering by color and numbering schemes. (2)

Placeholders The placeholders must be configured accordingly. (3)
Attribute type The attribute type must be assigned. (4)
The colors are assigned to the sequences in the Numbering-attribute-type form.
