Splitting FO cables

If a cable is cut during construction work, the cable sections have to be reconnected. This is where a repair closure is placed on site. All fibers of the now separated cables are spliced through in the closure.
With the workflow “Split FO cable”, the user has the option of digitizing a (repair) closure. The cable present at this point is automatically split. The resulting cable sections with the fibers are automatically spliced in the closure.

If a new branch is to be inserted on a cable that has been separated in a planned manner, a corresponding closure can be used on which the new cable section is integrated.

Procedure

Start the workflow in Workflow Explorer > FO Workflows > Split FO cable by double-clicking it, from the context menu or by clicking the mceclip0.png button in the lower right area of the workflow explorer:

or in the segment or duct form in the respective context menu for the cable:

or in the FO Cable Section form in the “Edit” menu:

Note
If the workflow was started from one of the forms, the cable is automatically selected. Then continue with point 3.

The cable splitting workflow opens:

1. You can select how the object selection is to be made:

a) The cable can be selected in the map.
b) The cable can be taken from the form.

Note
Currently, it is not possible to split cables that lie in ducts with their own geometry. The cable must lie in a segment. It is also not possible to split cables with incorrect geometry or cables that were created as multilines.

2. The entries can be added or removed.

3. The split action can be selected:

a) The cable can be split without creating a closure or terminator.
b) A new closure without attributes and trays can be created.
c) A new terminator without attributes and trays can be created.
d) An existing closure/terminator can be selected from the map or from the form:

In this case, the attributes type and status as well as the trays, splices and splitters are transferred from the prototype to the new closure/terminator.

e) A closure/terminator can be selected that is defined in the element library:

f) The cable can be split at an existing closure/terminator on the cable route. In this case, the existing device must then be selected:

The following connection types are possible:

4. The “Run” button starts the selection of the split point at which the cable is to be split and, if necessary, the closure/terminator is to be created (Exception: If the “Split at existing device” option has been selected, it is no longer necessary to select a split point).

When selecting the options “Choose existing prototype” or “Choose from element library,” a query appears asking which scheme should be used to create the splices in the new closure or terminator - either analogous to the prototype or simply numbered according to a standard splice plan:

After successful completion, a final feedback dialog is displayed showing which new features have been created (cables, closures/terminators, trays and splices):

A look at the splice overview shows that the fibers of the cable sections have been spliced according to the selected template.

Note
The prototype of the closure/terminator must be able to process the number of fibers of the cable sections in terms of structure and class.
