Connection editor from NET 11

Connections at the fiber/wire layer are created with the connection editor. Depending on the point from which the connection editor was opened, different connection options result.

The connection editor can be opened in the FO/TP Terminator, FO/TP Closure or Switching point form and from the NET tab.

Points between which connections are possible:

If you open the connection editor from the NET tab, there are no objects in the preview yet. The points in which connections are to be created must be selected in the graphic . Depending on the connection editor started, only points that belong to the FO Network or TP Network can be selected.

If you open the connection editor from the switching point, the points assigned to the switching point are in the preview or can be selected from the list. In this case, it is automatically checked whether the corresponding points (FO or TP) are assigned to the switching point.

If you open the connection editor from the terminator or the closure, only the incoming/outgoing cables are listed and no other devices.

Options

Clicking on the gear-wheel icon opens the dialog for the options:

The columns to be displayed are defined for all types of objects that can be connected.

	Add new column
	Move up/forward in sequence
	Move down/backward in the sequence
	Modify column definition
	Delete column definition
	Save and export the options as a JSON file
	Import options from a JSON file

If new columns are to be added, the following dialog opens:

Name	The name of the column can be specified.
Description	A description for the column can be entered.
Source	An attribute, SQL command or auxiliary column can be selected as the source. Depending on which source has been selected, the selection options under “Details” will change.

Attribute	An attribute of the feature class can be specified.
Type	The attribute type can be selected.

Actions

The drop-down list of actions includes all possibilities for connections and their disconnections depending on the objects selected. In addition, trays can be modified and new ones added under Edit.

Depending on the selected connection action, the left, center and right panes are adjusted and the corresponding objects are loaded in the preview.

Cables and splitters can be selected from the drop-down lists. Fibers and splitter paths are then selected. In the center, you specify the tray in which the splices are to be placed.

If ‘Connect’ > ‘Fibre with fibre’ was selected as the action, you can choose between the following options:

For ‘Splices’ and ‘Uncut fiber’, the appropriate trays must be selected in the middle. For ‘Uncut fiber in bundle’, no tray needs to be selected.

If ‘Connect’ > ‘Fiber with connector’ was selected as the action, you can choose between the following options:

For “Splices to pigtail in tray,” the corresponding trays must be selected in the middle. For “Pre-installed connector,” no tray needs to be selected.

If “Connect” > “Splitter path with connector” was selected as the action, you can choose between the following options:

No trays need to be selected for splices “with plug.” For “in tray” the corresponding trays must be selected in the middle.
 

Filtering elements

A variety of filters can be applied in any of the columns.

The following text-filtering characters can be used for a filter in Names.

For example, for a filter in numbers, specific quantities of elements can be selected with >, < and =.

Filtering for a specific text in the name with “All cables” selected:

Connections can only be disconnected within a point. Patches or patch fibers between two points can be retrieved, filtered and deleted from the respective terminators/closures.

If the connected cables are indicated in “Disconnect fibers”, the connected fibers are likewise selected with the choice of the corresponding fibers.

Existing trays can be modified, new trays can be added or existing trays can be deleted.

The available trays are displayed in the left pane. If you select one of these, the type, closure side, name and number can be modified in the central pane.

Existing trays can be deleted or new ones added via the context menu in the left pane.

If new trays have been added, they can be then be modified.

Connectors/pins can also be deleted in the FO/TP terminators.

With “Create action”, the changes are transferred to the action list and with “Run”, the changes are applied.

A wide variety of actions can be created successively—even in different points—and only run at a later point in time. However, the connection editor must not be closed until then.
