Connecting/disconnecting the network path (service)

Network paths are connections within a network that connect two cable terminators or switching points to one another via at least one cable section.
Network paths can connect the start and end points via an unlimited number of terminators, closures and switching points.

Connecting the network path in the service form

If a new network path is to be connected, this can be initiated starting from the service form.

Preparation

The terminator (fiber optic or telephony) at which the network path is to start is opened.

The connectors/pins contained in the terminator are opened and the desired connector/pin is filtered.

Implementation

The network path can be started either with a start connector / start pin (a) or a start patch (b).
a) If the network path is to be started with a start connector / start pin, the attribute “start connector / start pin” is set to YES for the selected connector/pin. The desired service is selected from the list and transferred to the network path.
b) If the network path is to be started with a start patch, the desired service is selected from the list.

In the “Edit” menu, clicking on “Create patch”

opens the connection editor:

1. “Connector/pin to technical port” is selected as the action.
2. The option “Start patch” is activated.
3. On the right side, a text can be entered to describe the technical port / start patch.

Note
The service must then be transferred to the network path.

The network path can then be extended, regardless of whether a connector/pin or a patch was selected as the start:

The following dialog opens:

The start element (green) is displayed—a start patch in the example—as are the elements that to this point belong to the network path of the service. The network path can be displayed in the graphic using the “Highlight” button.
Double-clicking on the last element of the network path opens the associated form. From there, further connections can be established, such as a further patch from the connector/pin.
After creating an additional patch, the now extended network path is displayed by clicking on the “Apply changes” and “Yes” buttons.

The network path can also be extended by right-clicking on the last element of the network path.

In the dialog, the terminators linked via the switching point and their free connectors/pins are displayed.

Here, too, a connector/pin can be selected for the next patch and the network path can be connected.

After “Apply changes”, the entire network path is displayed.

Disconnecting the network path in the service form

If an active network path is to be disconnected, this can be done from the associated service:

Messages regarding the cancellation:

Confirm this message with “Yes” if the network path is to be disconnected.

The patches deleted by the disconnection are listed:

The service is then no longer assigned to any points or edges.
