Manage Projects

Projects are the central element in NET Cloud and are located in the administration area under the “Material Marketplace”. By clicking on “Projects”, you get an overview of all created projects in list form and a search mask to find a specific entry.

Create projects

Using “Add new”, it is possible to add a project without layers and a display model. It must have a name and ideally a connection to a valid GeoServer. However, we recommend copying an existing NET Cloud project or using the project import.

Import projects

The effort required to set up a new NET Cloud project can be significantly reduced by using the underlying NET Engineering project. This NET Engineering project can be exported together with the selected NET/NFS display model and then imported into NET Cloud. Many settings are already correctly transferred to NET Cloud and can be supplemented with minor adjustments.

To create the required export file, follow the instructions under “Automatic project setup from Map3D to NET Cloud”.

Once the export file (ZIP archive) has been created, it can be selected via the “Import” button to create the corresponding NET Cloud project.

After the new project has been successfully imported, you will receive a confirmation message and the project details of the newly created project will be opened.

The following settings should be checked after the import:

  • Project boundaries
  • Run 1-click maintenance
  • Check access and permissions under “ACL” and “Organization”
  • The GeoServer URL must not use the computer IP, but the public URL
  • Do not change the workspace!
  • The “Name” is the display name and may contain capital letters and spaces
  • Message to users: is permanently displayed when opening

Schema types

For each phase of fiber optic expansion there is a separate data model and corresponding schema types.

Copy Projects

If you want to create a new project in NET Cloud that has an analogous layer structure to an existing NET Cloud project, copying an existing project is a good option.

To do this, open the project to be copied from the project list and click the “Copy” button in the upper right corner. The workspace (1) and the name (2) must be changed.

Important: Only use lowercase letters for the workspace (1)!

In the settings area (3), a default selection is provided. Use the slider to change to “No” as desired in order not to transfer certain data.

1PublishedCopies all layers contained in the project
2Copy layersCopies all layers contained in the project
3Copy ACLIf all layers are copied, their attributes are also copied
4Copy ACLCopies stored role-based permissions
5Copy ACL (known users)Copies stored individual users
6Copy organizationCopies the organization
7Copy stylesCopies the SLD styles stored in the layers
8Copy generic products

Copies generic products (material lists)

9Copy files, project management, imagesCopying not possible
12External API callsCopies reporting functions

Using button (4), the project settings can be exported. The generated ZIP file can then be used via import to create a new project.

Note: For security reasons, neither ACL (access control list) nor organizations are included when creating the export file, regardless of the selected options.

Open or edit project details

In the row of the desired project, select “Edit” or click directly on the project “Name” to open the detail view.

Information on project boundaries, schema type

Clicking on “Apply project boundaries” sets the boundaries from the map section selected on the right.

Release project for users

In order for a project to be visible to a user, the user must be enabled via the ACL (Access Control List) or via their organization.

Projekt_Berechtigungen_1.PNG

Within the relevant project, additional users can be enabled under the “ACL” menu item using the “Add new” button. In the displayed user list, search for the relevant entry. Make the selection using the checkbox at the beginning of the row and set the permissions for read, write, and execute in the lower section. Confirm the settings with “Save”.

Important: For uploading images to the project, “Write” must be set to “Yes”!

Release project for organization

To enable project access more quickly, entire organizations can be enabled for a project. Everyone who belongs to this organization automatically receives read and write permissions in the project, unless the permission is explicitly revoked for an individual user in the ACL.

An organization can be enabled in the project details under the “Organization” menu item by simply checking the box. Possible organizations are displayed after activating “Restriction to organization”. Changes must then be saved.

On the “Users with access” page, all users from the ACL and the enabled organizations are listed. The total number of users enabled for the project is also shown here.

Fix problems

Since every project setup requires certain adjustments, the “Problems” tab provides the option to fix issues with just a few clicks. Behind the “1-click maintenance” button (1), similar to the Autodesk Infrastructure Administrator, is an interface for fixing misconfigurations.

Attention!

The “Rebuild search index” button should only be used after careful consideration. It allows the admin to reindex ALL documents in the project. This means that the entire image index is deleted and rebuilt. This can take hours to days and should only be carried out in extreme emergencies.

In table (2), all current problems can be viewed, such as connection issues with the GeoServer or if a GeoServer update is pending.

Advanced project options

Above the project settings there is a toggle switch that allows switching between simple and advanced settings. In the advanced project options, the admin has more possibilities for configuring the project.
